Despite the Green Whites still being unable to train as a team, Florian Kohfeldt is gradually getting all of his players back to his disposal. Philipp Bargfrede has made effective use of the past few weeks without any football and Ömer Toprak is also on the right track, according to the head coach.

Straight from the off, the team have used the break in play to raise their fitness levels, rather than just maintaining it; an area that they had previously been lacking in, Kohfeldt claimed in the mixed zone on Wednesday afternoon. The previously injured Philipp Bargfrede in particular has been able to make effective use of this period. “He’s been able to train very well and is on the same schedule as the rest of the squad. He’s no longer in recovery.”

The situation is slightly different for Ömer Toprak, who suffered a calf injury during Werder’s last game against Eintracht Frankfurt in the DFB Pokal. “The wound has mostly healed itself and he can now gradually begin the rehabilitation process,” Kohfeldt announced. “If he could play for us again by mid-May, provided that the Bundesliga is back by then, that would be good.”
