Jens Stage joined up with the team shortly before their departure for training camp in Zillertal. According to the Dane, he has already been able to carve out a place for himself within the team, having completed his first training session with the team already. In his first press conference since making the move to Bremen, Stage spoke about the Bundesliga’s strengths, why he kept his fingers crossed all through his summer holiday and which position he enjoys playing in the most.

Stage’s first impression of Zillertal and Werder Bremen have been very positive, as he shared during a press conference on Friday. “The conditions here in Zillertal are amazing, and the ground is great. Everyone on the team is very friendly and have been very welcoming. Of course, Werder Bremen are a club with a lot of tradition and history,” said Stage. “I’m looking forward to being able to help the team out on the pitch soon.” The 25-year-old added that Werder’s rich history was part of his decision to join the club. “I like playing intense football in great stadiums in front of many fans, which is what Werder offers,” he said. “The Bundesliga is also one of the top leagues in Europe.”

Stage added that he has spent much of his summer holiday hoping that Werder would call. “I heard Werder we interested in early June, which is when I went on holiday. I was obviously hoping that it would work out,” he explained. Having watched many Bundesliga games on television before, the midfielder felt certain that his style of play would fit well to the league. “I try to work hard both in offence and in defence. I like being involved and contesting challenges. Here, I can prove myself at the highest level every week,” he said. Stage is eager to get started, adding “In an hour we will train again. I want to prove what I can do with actions rather than with words, and give everything for the team right from the start.”

Stage shrugs off comparisons to Thomas Delaney with a smile. He acknowledges that there are similarities, but also differences between the two. He did name one former Werder player when asked: “Leon Andreasen is a legend at my local club!” he said. Stage hasn’t discussed his move with the former Denmark international, however, as there hasn’t been time.
