“Marco has been developing steadily over the past few years and has matured into an absolutely key player. He’s a huge asset to the team in a footballing sense. As captain, he’s taken on a vital role both on and off the pitch and is an important point of contact for me,” added head coach Ole Werner.
Marco Friedl himself is equally looking forward to his future with the Green-Whites. “After seven years in Bremen, I’m now one of the longest-serving players at the club and have been there for all of the ups and downs during that time. That obviously brought us closer together, and I’m already feeling a lot of emotions. We’ve been constantly improving as a team over the past few years, and there’s still more to come. I’m fully on board with the plans the club have for the team, and I’m really looking forward to what’s to come.”
Marco Friedl joined SVW from FC Bayern in January 2018, initially on loan before signing on a permanent basis the following year. The 27-year-old has played 193 games for Werder so far, including 151 in the Bundesliga, 27 in the 2. Bundesliga, 13 in the DFB-Pokal and two in the relegation play-offs.
