The 37-year-old was relieved of his duties by the club’s management in late May after announcing that he wouldn’t be renewing his contract with the Green-Whites. Werner was still under contract at the club until summer 2026, and has now been released from the remainder of his contract. His assistants Patrick Kohlmann and Tom Cichon were also released from their contracts and will join Werner in Leipzig.
