Midfielder Jens Stage will be unavailable to SV Werder Bremen for the coming weeks. The Denmark international was forced off early during Saturday’s first pre-season friendly in Verden due to foot problems, prompting a thorough examination on Monday by team doctor Dr. Philip Heitmann. Stage has been diagnosed with a painful stress reaction in the metatarsal area, which will sideline him for several weeks.

“It’s important to give the foot time to rest now and treat it properly,” explained head coach Horst Steffen. “That’s why Jens won’t be travelling with us to the training camp in Zillertal – he’ll remain in Bremen to undergo the full range of therapies available while continuing to work on his fitness. We’re optimistic that he’ll be back soon.”
